Costa Rica 's south pacific sport
fishing zone begins in Dominical beach moving south through several good
points along the shoreline, and reaching the mighty
Sierpe and Terraba
deltas before encountering the Osa Península, where Drake bay is the
main starting point for many fishing adventures.
Under the shelter of such peninsula begin the fishing
grounds furthest away from the capital, where getting there in itself is
an adventure, but where offshore,
inshore
fishing and
deep
jigging produce many world records every year! |

 Sport
Fishing is good in the south Pacific.
|
Anywhere from Dominical
(20) to Sierpe
(23) is a good staring point for inshore and offshore fishing adventures,
with many hotspots of activity near the beaches or reef outcroppings
accessible on foot.
Good
sized Snook, mackerel,
roosterfish, snapper and jacks are the usual fishing targets,
with some wahoo and tunas joining the mix a little further from shore.
A must-do in
these zone if fishing inside the Sierpe
(23) - Terraba
(24) canals. There
are endless acres of mangrove estuaries and lagoons with little fishing
pressure, ideal for young and novice angles, and very challenging for
expert anglers on light tackle
and fly fisherman . |
|
Further down
south, in the more remote Golfito
(27)
and Zancudo
(28)
cities fishing is at it's
best. Countless species prowl the waters, African Pompanos and even elusive
Pacific Tarpons have been sighted and fished!

And of course,
let's not forget Costa Rica 's south pacific
offshore fishing, which is GREAT here any
time of the year.
Big Marlin, Sailfish, Mahi-mahi or "Dorado" and fat
Tunas roam the fishing ground continuously, all a short ride from shore in
state of the art boats. A MUST-DO for
offshore fishing is staying at (28) Drake Bay
which is next to Corcovado National park and the shortest ride away from big
fishing predators. |
