With the purpose of continuing promoting the modality of vertical
fishing (jigging), I take advantage of to publish the following writing.
One of the great world-wide phenomena in the sport fishing at the
present time - the vertical fishing with its great captures - arrived
from Japan at Brazil does about 15 years, thanks to a significant
population of fishermen of Japanese origin in our country and by means
of a promotional effort made by some guides of fishing and pioneers in
this modality (such as ejemp. Antonio Luis de Amaral - TUBA - a fishing
guide super-professional and member of Rapala Pro Staff in Brazil). A
little later, this modality got to be a permanent and definitive fashion
in our waters…
In short, the vertical fishing we called to him to the modality where
the fisherman looks for the fish that are in the depths of the sea, with
decoys (jigs) of different weights, finished and designs, leaving them
to fall later first until the bottom and raising them (jigeando) of
return until the surface.
Normally, this type of fishing gets used to making next to drop-offs (that
is to say, considerable transformations in the depth of sea), submarine
great rocks, platforms, barriers of chorales, shipwrecks, etc. That is
to say, places where there is a good abundance of feeding for the small
fish - and where come the great pregivers to also feed themselves.

The material of fishing in general must of be quite resistant, since the
common captures can be as much migratory great fish as they are the
medregales & bowers (to greater amberjack - seriola lalandi, rivoliana,
seriola seriola dumerili, seriola spp.), medregales & fish lemon (yellow
tail amberjack - seriola fasciata), jureles (jack crevalle - caranx
hippos, caranx spp.), tunny fishes, pretty & tunas (tuna - thunnus
spp.), petos (wahoo - acanthocybium solandri), anjovas (bluefish -
pomatomus saltatrix), coroutes (rachycentron canadum) and/or barracudas
(sphyraena spp.) - those that come being the real ones trophies in this
type of fishing - like also territorial fish, such as several mere types
of (grouper - epinephelus guaza, epinephelus nigritus, epinephelus spp.,
mycteroperca spp. etc.) and pargos (to snapper - lutjanus spp.)
As far as the speeds of work, it is good for being conscious that some
species more are attracted by high speeds of the decoys, meanwhile that
other species prefer a work a little slower. Nevertheless, the fish
(until of same a species) usually have differentiated habits and these
habits change according to the region and feeding available in waters at
issue. In order to mention a good example, the fishing of the medregales
with decoys of surface with a slow action (until with shutdowns) gives
good results in the south of Brazil, meanwhile that in waters of the
northeast of the country, one of the most effective modalities for this
species is the vertical fishing with speed jigs of fast action.
A quite good indication is to begin the work from the bottom with long,
smooth and relatively slow shots - and after an ascent of some meters,
to change the rate by one more aggressive, fast and short. In case this
rate not of results, is necessary to experience with other rates and
sequences until one finds a the job ideal to attract the fish.
The decoys used in the vertical fishing can be long, short, rectilinear,
convex, etc. and their weights usually vary between 60gr and 400 gr.
Depending on the type of the used model, the fall will be faster or
slower, direct, spiral fall, zigzag, etc. In short, jigs is metallic
decoys - normally with a prolonged body - and their form and weight are
distributed according to the specifications of each manufacturer.
These details come being the main factors that determine the action of
the decoy in the water. It is always necessary to choose a model adapted
according to the depth and stream force, with the purpose of being able
to arrive direct until the bottom of the sea.
The decoys normally arm with a hook or two hooks (tandem) type assist
hook (assist hooks of Williamson sport fishing lures is of first quality and made by
VMC) in the upper barrel band of the decoy. In addition, the opening of
the hooks must be ampler than the wide one of the decoy, to guarantee
good nailed and to avoid that the hook enlists with he himself decoy.
The models with a triple hook (treble) in the lower barrel band of the
decoy, can be used when the bottom is smooth, although normally it gets
used to clearing them to avoid the possibility that they enlist with the
leader. |
